Yes, Poo Squad picks up dog poop in Shawnee, KS. Your local Poo Squad crew comes over from our Northwest Kansas City location, run by location owners Scott and Rachelle Roberts. We handle residential dog poop removal, so your yard stays clean and you stay out of it.
You know the moment. The dog looks thrilled, the lawn looks fine from the patio, and then you step off the deck. Tired of dodging landmines? That's our whole job. If you've been hunting for a pooper scooper service in the Kansas City, KS area that actually covers Shawnee, you found it.
Where Shawnee Dogs Live (and Leave Things Behind)
Ask around Shawnee and you'll hear neighborhood names like Brittany Ridge, Greystone Estates, Crimson Ridge, Eagle Creek Estates and Frenchmen's Creek. Some folks skip the subdivision name and just say "61st and Pflumm" or "75th and K-7." Different streets, same story. Dogs everywhere, and a lot of backyards doing the heavy lifting.
Here's the thing about a busy dog yard. It fills up faster than you think. One dog, a week of nice weather, and the back corner by the fence turns into a minefield. Two dogs? We don't need to tell you. Our residential pooper scooper service keeps that corner from becoming a project.
The Big One: Shawnee Mission Park's Off-Leash Area
If your dog has a favorite place in town, it's probably Shawnee Mission Park at 7900 Renner Road. The Johnson County Park and Recreation District runs it, and it's huge: 1,756 acres with a 120-acre lake. The 44-acre dog off-leash area sits west of the 87th and Ridgeview entrance. It has a paved trail down to the lake and beach, plus wood chip and natural trails through grassland and woods.
One tip from people who've learned the hard way. The off-leash area closes every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 9 a.m. for maintenance. Plan that early run for another day.
Worth knowing: the city itself doesn't have dog runs in its municipal parks. Leashed dogs are welcome, though. Charles J. Stump Park on Woodland Drive has about 60 acres, a playground and a walking trail. The city recently shifted part of the Stump Park trail west because of erosion, so the path toward Okun Fieldhouse may look a little different than you remember.
A long day of lake water and trail mud makes for a happy dog. It also makes for a busy backyard the next morning. Just saying.
What Shawnee's Code Actually Says About Dog Poop
Shawnee spells this out pretty clearly. Here's the plain English version of the city's animal rules (Chapter 6.06 of the Shawnee Municipal Code):
- Not your property? Pick it up. It's unlawful to let your pet leave waste in any public place or on property you don't own.
- Your own yard counts too. All animal waste has to be regularly removed from your property and disposed of properly. Yes, really.
- Leash law. Your dog stays on your property. Off it, your dog needs to be on a leash, in a cage or in a car, and under your control.
- No license, but tags and shots. Shawnee stopped requiring pet licenses. You still need a rabies vaccination and an ID tag on the collar when your dog isn't indoors.
The city's Good Neighbor Program puts "remove pet waste" right next to vaccinations and noise. It also reminds you to follow your HOA's rules, and lots of Shawnee subdivisions have them. Our guide to HOA dog rules covers what usually trips people up. And if you're curious what skipping cleanup can cost elsewhere, read up on fines for not picking up dog poop.
One more local rule. Shawnee bans dumping yard waste into streets, gutters, creeks or streams (SMC 11.12.040). Dog poop doesn't belong there either. Rain won't make it disappear. It just moves it, as we explain in does dog poop wash away in the rain.
Shawnee Town 1929 Goes to the Dogs
Shawnee throws its dogs a real party. Every August, the Shawnee Town 1929 museum on West 57th Street hosts Dog Days of Summer. It's a free, rain-or-shine morning in the museum's 1920s town square with vendors, food trucks, splash pools and a KC Disc Dogs demonstration. There are contests too, with categories like Waggiest Tail and Best Bad Hair Day. Leashes on for this one.
The museum also runs Yappy Hour. For one evening, the historic downtown square turns into a fully fenced, off-leash dog park with live music under the bandstand lights. Picture a 1929 main street full of zoomies.

Late Winter in Shawnee: The Big Reveal
Kansas winters have a sneaky side. Snow covers the yard, the dog keeps going, and nobody's scooping in the cold. Then the thaw hits and everything shows up at once. Soggy, smelly, and stuck to the grass.
That's the perfect time for a one-time dog poop cleanup. We reset the whole yard, then you decide if you want us back regularly. Either way, you get your grass back before the kids and the grill come out. Not sure why it matters for the lawn? Here's why dog poop isn't good for grass.
How Your Shawnee Yard Gets Scooped
It's simple. Your local Poo Squad crew comes out, walks the yard, and picks up the piles. If you see our orange sign asking folks to keep dogs inside, that's us scooping. Let the pups wait a few minutes. They'll survive.

No more shoe-sole check every time you come in from the yard. No more arguing over whose turn it is. We know dog poop. Unfortunately. So you don't have to.
