Poo Squad Northwest Kansas City picks up dog poop in backyards all over Kansas City, Kansas. We're locally owned by Scott and Rachelle Roberts, and our crew is based right here in the Northwest Kansas City area. If you're looking for a pooper scooper service in Kansas City, KS that scoops the whole yard so you don't have to, that's us.

You know the drill. You step out back with your coffee, and there it is. Again. One dog makes a surprising amount of it. Two dogs make a career out of it. We know dog poop. Unfortunately. So you can stop knowing it so well.

Where KCK Dogs Live, Sniff and Stretch Their Legs

KCK is a big, varied city. The local visitors bureau splits it into five unofficial regions: West, Midtown, Northeast, Downtown and South. Yards look different in every one of them. So do the dogs.

Up on Strawberry Hill, known for its Croatian heritage and blufftop views, dogs have a fenced park of their own (more on that below). Down south, Rosedale, Argentine and Armourdale are historic neighborhoods with deep Hispanic roots. Then there's Village West out west, Quindaro in the northeast, and Bethel, home to Welborn Park. Different streets. Same backyard landmines.

Whatever your block looks like, the job is the same. We cover the whole yard and pick up every pile. Fence corners, the spot behind the shed, the strip by the AC unit. Yes, those too.

Dog Parks Around Kansas City, Kansas

St. John's Dog Park on Strawberry Hill

St. John's Dog Park sits at 801 N. 4th St., with a view over I-70 and the downtown skyline. It's split into two fenced areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs. Before the fence went up, some dogs ran off leash in the same space as kids. Now everybody gets their own room.

Wyandotte County Lake Park

This is the big one. Wyandotte County Lake Park covers about 1,500 wooded acres around a 400-acre lake, at 91st and Leavenworth Road. It has an off-leash dog area, and the Unified Government's Parks and Recreation Department opened a newer dog park near Shelter 16 and the archery range. The trails around the lake are a favorite dog walk, too.

Welborn Park in Bethel

Welborn Park is a 23-acre park on North 55th Street in the Bethel neighborhood. It has a trail, a playground and a dog park. Parks and Recreation has asked neighbors for input on future improvements there, so if your dog loves it, speak up.

Here's the thing about park days. A tired dog is a happy dog. A happy dog also poops at home later. Plan accordingly. Or let us plan for you.

The Dog Rules in Kansas City, Kansas, in Plain English

Kansas City, Kansas shares one government with Wyandotte County: the Unified Government. Its animal rules live in Chapter 7 of the Unified Government Code of Ordinances. Here's the short version.

  • Don't let your dog run loose. Under the animal code, an officer who finds an animal running at large can sign a complaint against the owner. The owner then gets a notice to appear in court. Not how anyone wants to spend a Tuesday.
  • Don't let waste pile up. The Unified Government's sanitary code says no one may deposit, or let be deposited, animal excrement in an unsanitary manner on public or private property. Private property means your own yard counts, not just the park.
  • Bag it at the park. St. John's, Welborn and the lake are shared spaces. Bring bags every time. Your fellow dog people will thank you.

Want to read the sanitary code yourself? The Kansas Department of Health and Environment hosts a copy of the Wyandotte County sanitary code. For the bigger picture, see our guide to fines for not picking up dog poop.

Why Backyard Piles Are More Than an Eyesore

Old piles don't just sit there being ugly. They draw flies, burn the grass and ride inside on paws and shoes. Kids find them. So does the mower.

Waiting for a good storm to take care of it? Rain doesn't make poop vanish. It just moves it. Our article on whether dog poop washes away in the rain explains where it ends up. And no, dog poop isn't good for your grass either.

Winter brings its own surprise. Snow hides weeks of piles. Then the thaw hits and the whole yard reappears at once. If that's your yard right now, a one-time dog poop cleanup gets you back to zero. Then regular visits keep you there.

Pet Places Every KCK Dog Owner Should Know
