Yes, Poo Squad picks up dog poop in Lyons, KS. Your local Poo Squad crew comes from our Hutchinson location, run by local owner Andrew Ehling, and scoops your yard so you don't have to. We offer weekly and every other week dog poop removal, plus one-time cleanups for yards that got away from you.
You know the drill. You head out back to mow, and suddenly you're doing the landmine shuffle across the grass. We know dog poop. Unfortunately. That's the whole job, and we're happy to take it off your list.
Our Hutchinson Crew Comes to the Rice County Seat
Lyons sits where Highways 56 and 96 meet, and it's the county seat of Rice County. The historic courthouse anchors downtown. It's a real town with real yards, and plenty of them have a dog or two holding down the fort.
Our pooper scooper service from Hutchinson, KS covers 14 towns in this part of Kansas. Lyons is one of them, along with Sterling, Nickerson, McPherson and Lindsborg. So you get a crew based right here in the Hutchinson area, not someone driving in from the big city.
What we do is simple. We walk your yard, find every pile and scoop it up. You can read more about how our residential pooper scooper service works before you sign up for anything.
Where Lyons Dogs Run, Sniff and Leave Surprises
Lyons has more places to walk a dog than people from out of town expect. The City of Lyons lists a Dog Park right alongside its other city parks: Workman Park, Augmon Park, Tobias Park and Frisbie Park. If your pup likes ball games, the Little League diamonds and Battershell Baseball Diamond are on that list too. (Just keep the zoomies off the infield.)
Want a longer stroll? The Celebration Centre at 1145 East Highway 56 has a half-mile concrete nature trail and a playground. Davis Nature Trails shares that same address, so you can stretch a walk out when the weather's nice.
Downtown makes a good leash walk too. You can loop past the courthouse, check out the bronze sculptures, and pay your respects to the World's Largest Salt Shaker at Commercial and East Avenue. It honors the town's salt roots. Lyons takes its salt seriously. We take poop seriously. Everybody has a calling.
Here's the thing, though. Bring bags on every walk, and most of the mess still ends up at home. The backyard is where it piles up day after day. That's where we come in.
Lyons Dog Rules, Minus the Legal Talk
The big one in Lyons is the dog license. City ordinance says you need one, and you've got 30 days to get it after any of these happen:
- You get a dog that's over four months old.
- Your dog turns four months old.
- You move into the city with your dog.
- Your current pet license expires.
The fee is $5 for a spayed or neutered dog and $20 for one that isn't. Late fees kick in for tags bought after March 31 each year. So if you're reading this in February, put it on the fridge.
The rest of the city's animal rules live in Chapter 4, Animals, of the Code of the City of Lyons. We didn't find a specific poop pickup clause to quote you, so we won't make one up. If you have a question about the current rules, call Lyons City Hall at 201 W Main, (620) 257-2320. Rules aside, cleaning up after your dog is just being a good neighbor. Our guides on dog poop laws by state and fines for not picking up dog poop cover the bigger picture.
Dog Swims, Rescues and Pet Places in Rice County
The Lyons Municipal Swimming Pool sits at 901 S Terran, and its season usually runs from late May into early August. In 2023 the city closed out the summer with a Dog Swim the day after the pool's last day for people. If your dog is a water lover, keep an eye on the city's pool page late each summer to see if it comes back.
Thinking about adding a dog to the family? Friends of Animals Rice County is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) based in Sterling. They rescue impounded animals from pounds across Rice County and find them new homes. They don't have a building of their own. Instead, they pay to board a limited number of pets at Rice County veterinary clinics, so space is tight and donations matter.
And if you're showing a visiting friend around, the Coronado Quivira Museum on West Lyon Street is a Santa Fe Trail site worth an afternoon. You'll find more local spots on the Rice County attractions page.

Why Late Winter Hits Lyons Yards Hardest
Kansas winters have a sneaky side. Snow covers the yard, the dog keeps going, and nobody wants to scoop in the cold. Then the melt comes and reveals months of buildup all at once. That's why January through March is our busiest stretch.
If that's your yard right now, start with a one-time dog poop cleanup. We reset the yard, then you decide if you want us back weekly or every other week. Your grass will thank you. And no, dog poop isn't fertilizer. Our article on whether dog poop is good for grass explains why it does more harm than good.
