Poo Squad Champaign picks up dog poop in St. Joseph, IL. Your local Poo Squad crew drives out from the Champaign area, about 11 miles west, to scoop yards across the village. We offer recurring dog poop removal, one time cleanups, yard deodorizing, commercial pet waste removal and event pooper scooper services.
You moved to St. Joseph for the small town feel. Not for the minefield by the back fence. We get it. We know dog poop. Unfortunately.
A Pooper Scooper Company From Urbana, Right Down the Trail
The village likes to say you can arrive by highway or by trail. Both work for us. St. Joseph sits off U.S. Route 150 and I-74, and the Kickapoo Rail Trail ties it straight to Urbana. That trail follows the old CSX rail line for 24.5 miles, from East Urbana to Kickapoo State Park, through Mayview, St. Joseph, Ogden, Fithian and Oakwood.
So yes, we're the pooper scooper company Urbana folks already know, and we head this way anyway. St. Joseph counted 3,810 residents in the 2020 census. Small enough that neighbors notice whose yard smells. Big enough that plenty of those yards have dogs.
Our recurring dog poop removal service keeps your yard clear, visit after visit. Got a whole winter piled up out there? Start with a one time cleanup and go from there.
Where St. Joseph Dogs Walk, Sniff and Play
The village calls them its three neighborhood parks. Each one sits in a different corner of town, so your dog probably has a favorite already.
- Kolb Park, 205 W. Sherman Street. The village's oldest park, just off the trail as you come in from the west. You'll find basketball courts, pickleball and tennis courts, and a gazebo with restrooms. The trailhead here has restrooms and drinking fountains too.
- BJ Hackler Park, 1400 Park Ave, on the north side of the village. Soccer fields, a shared park area and a gazebo with restrooms.
- Woodard Community Park Sports Complex, 2007 E. Grand Ave, on the east edge of town. It's 40 acres of green space built through grants, volunteers and donations, with baseball, softball, football and soccer fields.
Then there's the trail itself. The paved stretch runs right through downtown past Main Street. Walkers, cyclists and leashed dogs share it every day. Bring bags. Every single time.
Want off-leash time? The members-only Bark District dog park is over in Champaign, on seven fenced acres near Windsor and Rising Roads.

The Salt Fork Is Why Scooping Matters Here
St. Joseph borders the banks of the Salt Fork River, and Homer Lake Forest Preserve is close by. The USGS keeps a monitoring station on the Salt Fork at St. Joseph. The river is a tributary of the Vermilion.
Here's the thing about poop left in the grass. It doesn't vanish when it rains. Rain breaks it apart and carries the bacteria toward drains, ditches and streams. Want the full story? Read whether dog poop washes away in the rain. Spoiler: it doesn't wash away. It just moves.
Central Illinois winters pile on. Snow hides everything for weeks. Then the thaw hits and the whole season shows up at once. Soggy, smelly and right where the kids want to play. That's why January to March is the busiest stretch of the year for poop scooping.
St. Joseph's Animal Rules, in Plain English
St. Joseph keeps its animal rules in Title 6, Chapter 2 of the village code. Here's what you should know:
- Section 6-2-1 bans keeping farm animals inside village limits. Horses, cattle, swine, goats, sheep, chickens, geese, turkeys and even beehives are out. One fun exception: a family can keep one male rabbit as a pet.
- Section 6-2-3 covers dogs and cats. Check the current text with the village before you count on any detail.
Champaign County adds its own layer. Champaign County Animal Control requires owners of dogs and cats over four months old to get a rabies vaccination and a county rabies tag through registration. The county ordinance says dogs and cats living in the county must wear that tag on a collar unless they're confined.
Our take? Nobody on Sherman Street wants to find your dog's business on the sidewalk. Pick up on walks. Let us handle the yard. If a neighbor's dog is the real problem, our guide to handling neighbors who don't pick up dog poop can help.
Festival Weekend and Other St. Joseph Gatherings
Each August, the St. Joseph Community Festival takes over town with carnival rides, games, food and vendors. It's an annual tradition with a lot of history behind it.
Planning something where dogs are welcome? Maybe a team cookout at the sports complex or a party at a park gazebo? Our event pooper scooper services keep the grass clean so your guests don't have to watch their step. Running a business, a rental property or shared green space in the village? Ask about commercial pet waste removal.
When the Poop's Gone but the Smell Isn't
You know that smell. The one that hangs around the favorite corner of the yard even after you scoop. Our yard deodorizing tackles it. Not sure how often your yard needs attention? Read how often to pick up dog poop in your yard. Short answer: more often than most of us actually do.
