Back From Hagan, and Now There's the Yard
You know the routine. Your dog runs the big field at Hagan, comes home tired and happy, and then does what dogs do. In your backyard. Again.
We know dog poop. Unfortunately. That's the whole job. Poo Squad Sacramento is locally owned by Jasper Jacobs, and Rancho Cordova is a big part of our route. If you've been looking for a Sacramento pooper scooper service in Rancho Cordova, CA, that actually knows the town, you found us.
Where Rancho Cordova Dogs Live: Anatolia, Sunridge and Beyond
Plenty of Rancho Cordova is dog country. A few spots we hear about a lot:
- Anatolia. It sits southeast of Stone Creek and northeast of Mather. Neighbors there list dogs among their top interests on Nextdoor. We believe it.
- Sunridge. Homes cluster around Sunridge Park and the Sunridge Shopping Plaza at Douglas Road and Sunrise Boulevard. Lots of yards. Lots of surprises.
- Stone Creek. Home to Stone Creek Community Park, where leashed dogs are welcome on the open grass.
- Montelena. The Cordova Recreation and Park District has asked residents to help plan a future community park at the Montelena development.
New house, new dog, same old problem. Whether you're in Anatolia or closer to the river, the piles add up the same way.
Hagan Community Dog Park, Rancho Cordova's Favorite Hangout
If your dog has a social life, it probably happens at Hagan. Hagan Community Park covers nearly 80 acres on Chase Drive. It's the largest park in the district, and it backs right up to the American River Parkway.
The Hagan Community Dog Park is nearly 2.5 acres and opened in 2009. It's split into three areas for small, medium and large dogs. Leadership Rancho Cordova Class X renovated it, adding steps and weave posts for big dogs, a hurdle and paws table for medium dogs, hoops and a crawl tube for little ones, and 27 new trees for shade.
A few things regulars learn fast:
- It's open sunrise to sunset, but it's closed Thursdays from sunrise to 10 a.m. for maintenance.
- Keep your dog leashed until you're inside and the gate is shut.
- Two dogs max per handler, and handlers must be over 18.
- From May to September, parking costs $6 per vehicle on weekends and holidays.
- You pick up after your dog. Bag stations and trash cans are spread through the park.
Stone Creek and the Jedediah Smith Trail
Want something calmer? Stone Creek Community Park on Spoto Drive has about 21 acres where leashed dogs can stretch out. For longer walks, the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail runs along the American River Parkway with mile markers, water fountains and restrooms.
A New Dog Park Coming to White Rock
The park district and the city are building a new dog park at White Rock Community Park. It's funded with $500,000 of the city's federal ARPA money, and the district expects it to be done in fall 2026. More dogs playing nearby. More reasons to keep your own yard clean.
Rancho Cordova's Dog Rules, Minus the Legal Speak
Rancho Cordova runs its own Animal Services, and the city code is pretty clear about dogs.
- Leash it. Under RCMC 8.03.010, dogs need a leash no longer than eight feet. The exceptions are your own property, private property where the owner says yes, and posted off-leash areas.
- Stay off the neighbor's lawn. That same section says your dog can't enter private property without the owner's consent. So the neighbor's grass isn't a bathroom.
- Don't be a nuisance. A pet acting as a public nuisance violates RCMC 8.03.010(A)(3).
- License and vaccinate. Dogs over four months need a city license (RCMC 8.06.010) and a current rabies shot (RCMC 8.05.010).
At Hagan, picking up is a posted park rule. At home, it's on you. Curious how other places handle it? Our guide to dog poop laws and fines by state breaks it down.

Why Rancho Cordova Yards Shouldn't Wait for Rain
It's tempting to let the weather deal with it. Bad plan. Here's why rain doesn't wash dog poop away. Piles sitting in your Sunridge or Stone Creek yard pull in flies and stink up the patio. They also make the lawn a gamble for kids and guests.
Not sure how often is often enough? Our guide on how often to pick up dog poop in your yard gives you a straight answer. Or let us worry about it.
